Eddie Freeman
Senior Product Engineer · AI-Native · Mobile-First · Agentic Systems
15+ years shipping production systems. I work at the seams between disciplines — carrying design intent into implementation, building platform capability other teams ship on, and taking ownership of the operational layer when it needs an owner.
What I'm good at
Now
Simply Build / Your Curlfriend — Co-Owner & Platform Engineer
Portland, OR · Aug 2025 – PresentI architected and operate an agentic operations platform that runs a live salon end to end — apps, automations, a CRM, and 17 primary agents, coordinated through an event-driven registry.
- Architected and operate an agentic operations platform running the business end to end — apps, automations, a CRM, and a collection of 17 primary agents across finance, payroll, intake, retail, content, and hiring, coordinated through an event-driven registry.
- Built the platform's decision-support layer — damped-trend revenue projections, KPI management, and staff career mapping — designed around cognitive accessibility for an operator who doesn't think in spreadsheets. The numbers went from avoided to acted on.
- Migrated booking and POS from Square to Mangomint with no material disruption to live operations, establishing the data feed the BI and agent layers run on — and own the vendor relationship it opened: EAP agreements and early access to new technology, webhooks I can name publicly plus further features under NDA, earned in regular conversations with Mangomint’s leadership about gaps in their platform.
- Incrementally hardening prototypes into platform — moving deterministic work out of the agentic runtime onto self-owned infrastructure for legible unit costs.
Selected experience
Frontdoor (Streem) — Senior Software Engineer
Portland, OR · Feb 2023 – Jul 2026Founded the React Native initiative and architected 2 cross-platform video-conference SDKs adopted across 2 business units, powering live expert video calls in apps with 1M+ downloads and near-5-star ratings.
- Led the Twilio → Amazon Chime video migration ahead of vendor sunset, enabled by an adapter pattern designed into the SDK up front; wrapped native SDKs in an Expo module with Kotlin and Swift platform implementations.
- Prototyped design-conformance automation pulling Figma design tokens to verify implementation matched design, catching color and spacing mismatches during build rather than in late review; presented to executive leadership including the incoming CTO and earned a seat on the AI Champions team.
- Removed an AWS Parameter Store dependency from mobile CI by uploading build metadata directly to the test framework — eliminating the AWS CLI from pipelines, reducing build and setup/teardown time, shrinking the credential surface, and simplifying the GitHub → GitLab migration.
- Diagnosed delivery flow — not pipeline speed — as the constraint on the contractor portal, where finished work sat undeployed in lost branches; drove adoption of trunk-based development with preview environments and expanded test coverage.
- Established operational-excellence practice: container-as-a-service deployment enablement unused for years prior, runbooks replacing tribal knowledge and meeting-based handoffs, app-to-SDK observability traceability, and maintainability patterns for LLM, React Native, and web operations.
Eight Sleep — Software Engineer
Portland, OR · Jan 2021 – May 2022Led a React Native team of 3–5 on the smart-bed companion app handling sensitive health data — release confidence ~20% → ~80%, 99.2% median app stability.
- Replaced ill-fitting crash and analytics tooling with Embrace for first-class React Native support; standardized logging practice and built automated data-injection pipelines into Kustomer for customer support.
- Defined an impact-vs-severity triage framework pairing performance and customer-inbound signals with a product-owner on-call cycle — shifting incident response from reactive firefighting to prioritized, data-backed decisions. Improved team burn-down ~22%.
Wandering Hearth Studio — Founder & Principal Consultant
Portland, OR · 2015 – PresentConsulting on developer experience, sustainable process, and cross-platform architecture — concurrent with employment. Led 5 interns with minimal mobile experience to a full-stack React Native MVP — serverless backend, user creation, appointment booking — inside a 5-week accelerator.
Earlier career
- 2022 – 2023
- Inkitt — Senior Frontend Engineer. Resolved an architectural flaw destabilizing CodePush OTA releases; built a proposal system that made technical direction visible across time zones.
- 2019
- Infinite Red (uShip) — Freelance Software Engineer. ~24% code-smell reduction, ~15% fewer remote-handling error reports, 2 major features with a core team of 3.
- 2018 – 2019
- Apex Systems (Nike) — Lead Software Engineer. Grew a secure internal React/React Native product catalog from a two-week MVP into a shared-code platform other Nike teams sought to join, with a data model adopted as the org’s single source of truth.
- 2016 – 2017
- Ticketfly / Eventbrite — Mobile Engineer (iOS) · Editor-in-Chief. Two consumer apps at 500k–1M+ MAU; cut event-search lookups from seconds to milliseconds; used traffic data to unstick a stalled decision, then led 12 engineers to a Kotlin MVP in a 3-day hackathon.
- 2012 – 2014
- Crittercism / Apteligent — Senior Developer Success Engineer. Employee #8 through 12x growth to 100+, supporting ~10,000 developers; built Unity and Appcelerator plugins; a knowledge repository that cut repetitive inquiries ~65%.

Skills
Speaking & community
Interviewed ~100 engineers for G2i, a vetted developer talent network, and served on the hiring committee that staffed Frontdoor’s AHS mobile team.
Also a commissioned private engagement for business owners on AI workflows (2025), and internal Frontdoor sessions on AI engineering, agentic and multi-agent systems, debugging practice, and documentation standards. I write at thebetween.space, on technology, culture, and the space between.
